Couples Therapy
To make a car run well, you need the right fuel. The same goes for any relationship. While getting in a relationship is easy, identifying healthy and appropriate habits for you and your partner is a lot harder. This is the purpose of couple’s therapy, to help individuals who are in romantic relationships find healthy and appropriate boundaries, discuss proper ways to disagree, and reach the goals of their relationship.
A lot of these lessons can be learned through self-help books, problem-solving, and traditional trial and error. However, nothing beats having a trained and qualified professional help you along the way. Having someone who can identify the pitfalls of an interaction and help you and your partner navigate those obstacles into success is both an art and a science and something that is not always available in a book or on your own.
Your First Session
In your first sessions with Dr. Rougeaux-Burnes, you and your partner will work with him to identify the most current and biggest problems in your relationship. Additionally, you will also discuss how prominent events in the past of both you and your partner has helped lead you to where you are. From there, Dr. Rougeaux-Burnes will teach you important skills to actively listen, love each other in the appropriate love language, and identify both the negative and positive patterns in your relationship. Lastly, the session will focus on finding tangible and concrete skills for both you and your partner to take with you and use long after work with Dr. Rougeaux-Burnes is complete.
