A little something about me.
Gaston Rougeaux-Burnes, PsyD, is a Licensed Psychologist who specializes in working with children, couples, and families in a variety of capacities, including play therapy, individual therapy, and parent training. His willingness to help you and your loved ones feel supported and guided through difficult times helps his clients overcome their obstacles.
Educationally, Dr. Rougeaux-Burnes is a native Texan and graduated highschool in Cypress, Texas. From there, he attended Baylor University, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Neuroscience. Dr. Rougeaux-Burnes then pursued higher education at the Forest Institute of Professional Psychology, where he attained his Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy, as well as his Doctorate in Clinical Psychology.
Dr. Rougeaux-Burnes has acquired many skills secondary to his supervised clinical experiences and work history. These undertakings have helped him gain valuable clinical knowledge in working with a variety of populations, including children, adolescents, couples, and families of all walks of life. Dr. Rougeaux-Burnes’ clinical specialties include couples therapy (pre-marital, divorce, healthy relationships, etc.), child and family therapies, as well as interests in spiritual roadblocks and formation. In terms of background, Dr. Rougeaux-Burnes spent his time and training assisting low income couples and families, as well as performing psychological assessments for a variety of age ranges.
As an integral part of how he approaches psychological care, Dr. Rougeaux-Burnes works to assist individuals in determining what roadblocks may be hindering them from being successful, and guides patients to find the tools within themselves to overcome their obstacles. Dr. Rougeaux-Burnes has had varied clinical experiences which range from severe mental illness to issues within the family system, and uses these experiences to cultivate a positive helping environment with those whom he serves. Specifically, Dr. Rougeaux-Burnes uses a process of incorporating the entire family and engaging them in a problem solving approach. This process allows the individuals present to determine “where they would like to go" and “how they would like to get there." This systemic approach to helping others assists in facilitating growth and allows patients to generate salient solutions to their problems and get “back on track."
Primarily, Dr. Rougeaux-Burnes specializes in working with couples and families to address their problems in a healthy manner, and teaching them the tools to increase their quality of life. Many times this can be accomplished through healthy establishment of boundaries, generation of appropriate problem solving techniques, and the process of active listening. Dr. Rougeaux-Burnes uses a short-term problem solving approach to help all of his clients feel heard, overcome their obstacles, and move on with their lives.
